Action Sports

Paul Trunfio's Football ImageOne of my main photography interests is action sports. When I cover a whole team for a newspaper, it's difficult to focus on one or a few athletes. Usually, I follow the action. To accommodate parents who want to capture their kids in action, I will shoot your sporting event while focusing the action on your kids and your kids alone. So, I won't necessarily follow the action, but will follow your kids. There will of course be action shots but also candid moments that I would not otherwise get. To allow me to get the best shots and give you the most selection, I allow up to three parents to hire me together and split a single event shoot rate. While I'm with your kids, I'll also shoot some sportrait shots. You can also hire me to shoot your whole team (at the same rates), but I cannot guarantee shots of all the kids, since I will follow the action for the most part and grab candids when I can.

For prints, I will charge my normal event print prices, not my higher portrait prices. I shoot my normal unlimited images. Don't miss out on this opportunity to get beautiful images of your kids in action! I have a 5x7 print of me from the 70s playing little league (leading off second base), that I cherish to this day. This special applies to all levels and abilities, from pre-school munchkins through college levels.

If you are an organization, consider hiring me as the exclusive photographer for your event. For large groups, I generally waive shoot fees and donate 10% of my net profit back to your organization.

If you are a media outlet, please contact me for action sports photojournalism assignments.

I have also upgraded my sports shooting lenses. I now use Nikon D300 and D3 cameras for improved low light performance. I've been shooting with the stellar Nikkor 70-200 f/2.8 VR AF-S zoom lens for a while, and recently added an equally stellar gray USA-version Nikkor 300mm f/4 prime AF-S lens and TC-14E II teleconverter giving me an effective maximum 35mm focal length of 630mm! I also use a 400mm f/2.8 lens when needed and wide angle zooms. I shoot with two lenses on two cameras for most outdoor field sports. Such long lenses allow me to isolate the action, getting in real close. I've upgraded to a Gitzo GM-2941 monopod that supports 22 lbs and now use Really Right Stuff feet, collars, and integrated flash bracket (for night sports).
